Yesterday, Thursday, December 26, 2019 in a scintillating display of hardwork, teamwork and sportsmanship, Abacha town defeated their Nkpor counterpart to become winners of the first edition of Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi Annual Football Competition.
The match which was played at the Eziowelle Stadium in Idemili North LGA, saw both sides display fascinating skills and relentless spirits in the both halves of the final match before heading to penalty shootout after the both halves ended without any goals.
In my remarks, I appreciated the 17 towns in Idemili North and South Federal Constituency for participating in the competition. I told them that aside harnessing talents from our Constituency, part of my vision for this competition was to create unity amongst all the communities in Idemili North and South Federal Constituency. I hope that in the coming editions this competition would grow into what Ụmụ Idemili would always look forward to each year.
As earlier promised, Abacha, the winner of the competition went home with N500, 000; Nkpor who came second went home with N300, 000 and the third team, Ogidi was rewarded with N200, 000.
Each participating team was presented with a certificate of participation, while medals were given to the first three teams and cash prizes to the Most Valuable Player, Best Goal Keeper, Highest Goal Scorer, Best Defender and Well Behaved team of the tournament.
I also informed the organising committee to select a ‘First Eleven’ team drawn from the participating teams, and prepare them for a national tournament coming up later next year.
I reiterated my promise to Ụmụ Idemili that this competition will continue for the next four years and shall improve both in prizes and features as the competition progresses.
In a very special way, I appreciate my SA on sports development, Mr. Ebuka Okeke and his sports committe for their dedication, commitment and detailed planning in ensuring that we had a successful competition.
